Four Ways to Keep Your Bathroom Looking New After a Renovation

Picture this: You just invested time, money and energy into a bathroom renovation. It took time to complete and you had to live through the renovations but you finally have a space that you can enjoy for years to come. You’ve been able to take baths and feel at peace in a space that’s supposed to help calm you. Now, how do we ensure that bathroom looks brand new for years to come? Here are a few SnoWood Carpentry tips to ensure your guests are in awe of your bathroom every time they see it!

Clean Regularly

This might seem like a pretty easy one but believe it or not, it’s the one most people don’t actually do. Cleaning goes beyond just cleaning the floors and counters. You need to ensure you’re wiping down the walls of the shower, squeegeeing the glass doors, and cleaning any faucets or fixtures. Water can build up easily in a shower or on the edges of your tub. The easiest way to prevent mold is by keeping those areas dry. That means wiping them down after every shower.

Oh and remember, glass shower doors need to be cleaned regularly. Invest in a good squeeqee.

Ventilation

Every bathroom needs to have proper ventilation to prevent moisture build-up which results in mold and mildew growth. Take a look at your exhaust fan and ensure it is working properly and that it is not clogged with any dust, hair or dirt. This fan should be used every time you take a shower or bath.

Grout & Silicone

Over time, grout and caulking can become discoloured and cracked. Grout goes between your tiles and caulking is used to seal any areas where there could be air leaks or spaces for mildew to grow. Make sure to clean these areas regularly (shower tile, floor tile, around the edges of your tub/faucet, behind your vanity) to prevent discolouring or leaks. If water gets behind the tiles or in the cracks, it can cause damage. There may be times where you also need to re-grout or re-caulk areas of your bathroom. If you have any questions on how to do this, let us know.

Keep Things Organized

Things can get messy in the bathroom – especially with hair, makeup, bathing and medicinal products. Not to mention towels of all sizes and toilet paper. Look for storage solutions that can keep your bathroom organized. This can include bins and baskets but can also include adding some shelving to your space. Less clutter means a cleaner space and a clean space looks newer.

Aside from these four things, if you take good care of your space, it’ll be beautiful for years to come. Sure, bathroom styles might change but the love you have for your space will last forever.
