Three Easy Renovations to Transform Your Home
Renovating your space can be a great way to give it a fresh look and feel – but those renovations don’t always have to involve taking down walls or relocating the plumbing. There are some easier (and cheaper!) renovations that can give your home a whole new look.
Paint & Accent Walls
Painting your walls is one of the easiest and most cost effective ways to transform your home. A fresh coat of paint can instantly update a room and make it brighter, more spacious and more inviting. When picking a paint colour, you can choose one that compliments your existing decor or choose a completely new colour that makes a statement.
If you’re looking to take it one step further, you can also incorporate an accent wall or some wainscoting on your walls. This requires a bit more material and more math, but is still doable! The photos above are a few examples of projects we’ve completed that are simple but give the space a cozier and more modern feel.
Flooring
If you’re looking for another easy renovation to do, maybe it’s time to switch up your flooring. If you have carpet, consider replacing it with hardwood or laminate flooring to create a more modern and durable look. If you have hardwood floors, consider refinishing them to give them a fresh look. If you have outdated tile or linoleum, consider replacing it with something new and on-trend, like luxury vinyl or porcelain tile.
If you’re not ready to replace the flooring, opt for a new rug that will give the space a warmer feel.
A few tips for replacing flooring:
When you start your flooring, don’t apply it overtop of existing flooring. Rip up everything to the sub-floor and assess whether or not the sub-floor needs to be replaced. Bonus tip: screw the plywood or sub-floor into the joist rather than nailing it for added stability or strength.
You want to ensure that your flooring pieces are staggered. It improves strength and also just looks better!
If you’re doing multiple rooms, plan the flooring pieces so that they transition into each room. This avoids you needing a transition piece.
Add Storage
Sometimes the easiest way to transform a space is to get rid of clutter. What better way to do that than to add some new storage solutions. These solutions can include new shelves or adding a closet organization system. Declutter your space, get organized and opt for a simple storage unit to give the space a refresh.
